Fleeing a life of misery and abuse, Ariadna is adopted by a widow and as a young teen marries her childhood sweetheart, but their happy life is soon shattered by the horrors of the first World War and the revolution, which devastates Russia, their homeland. The young couple manages to escape and from then on they live the life of refugees, trying to preserve their identity, always hoping one day to return home. Eventually, Ariadna ends up in the U.S.A., but still yearning to return to the land of her birth she undertakes a final journey, which results in an amazing encounter, and the mystery surrounding her parentage is finally solved!
Here is a story of survival, courage, faith, hope, illusions and reality. It is also a tender and poignant story of love and devotion that in spite of tragic circumstances lasts a lifetime. Told with a simple, utterly convincing sincerity it is a picture of life that many homeless refugees are even at this moment living. The characters in this novel are never beaten, but optimistically struggle against fate without losing the joy of being alive.
